Hayward, Anna Ella (December 13, 1909 - July 15, 2006)

Anna Ella Hayward, age 96, of Neillsville, died Saturday, July 15, 2006, at Memorial Health and Rehabilitation in Neillsville, Wis.

Anna was born on December 13, 1909 to the late George and Annie L. Kennedy in Mellen, WI. During her life she worked as a Registered Nurse at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield. She married Lloyd Hayward on November 13, 1934 in Mellen.

She is survived by her sons, Donald (Charlene) Hayward, of Neillsville, John Hayward, Green Bay; Alan Hayward, Marshfield; James Hayward, Green Bay; and her daughters, Kathryn Hayward and Mary Susan Hayward, Newbury, CA, and Nancy (Steven) VanBeusekom, of Deming, NM; her grandchildren, Preston (Kelly) Hayward, of Ft. Lewis, WA; Brion Hayward and Colleen Doyle, of Madison; Jason (Marie) Hayward, of Appleton; Philip Hayward and Missy Jones, of San Diego, CA; and great-grandchildren, Brennan and Jocelyn Hayward, of Ft. Lewis, WA.

Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; her parents; three brothers and sisters-in-law; and son-in-law, Edward Gandara.

Memorial Services will be held at a later date at the Memorial Health and Rehabilitation Chapel, Neillsville, Wis. Interment will be in the Mellen Cemetery in Mellen.

A Memorial Fund has been established in her name at the Neillsville Memorial Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Wisconsin Cremation Services in Eau Claire served the family.

Hayward, Anna Ella (December 13, 1909 - July 15, 2006)

Anna Ella Hayward, age 96, of Neillsville, died Saturday, July 15, 2006, at Memorial Health and Rehabilitation in Neillsville, Wis.

Anna was born on December 13, 1909, the only daughter of Scottish immigrants Geroge and Anne Kennedy, from Apple Hill, Glengarry County, Ontario, Canada.

As a child she lived briefly with her family in Glidden, WI and Shanagolden, where her father was a cook for the Mellen Lumber Company. Anna attended school in Mellen and graduated from Saint Joseph’s School of Nursing, Ashland, in 1931 as a Registered Nurse. She served her internship at Michael Reese Hospital, in Chicago, IL. During her 45 years as a nurse, she worked at the Bayfield Sanatorium, Bayfield, WI; St. Joseph’s Hospital, Ashland, and starting in 1950 in Marshfield at Wood County Asylum and Saint Joseph’s Hospital.

On November 17, 1934 she married Mellen Forest Ranger, Lloyd L. Hayward at the Catholic parsonage in Mellen. Lloyd was then supervising the construction of the Mellen Ranger Station in which they lived for the following 10 years. Lloyd preceded her in death on September 17, 1959.

Seven children, four grandsons, two great-grandchildren, one niece, one grand-niece, and one grandnephew survive Anna.

Son, John Hayward, of Green Bay; grandson, Preston (Kelly) Hayward (Major Hayward is currently serving in Iraq); great-grandson, Brennan Hayward; great-granddaughter, Jocelyn Hayward, of Ft. Lewis, WA; grandson, Brion (Colleen) Hayward, of Madison; daughters, Kathryn Hayward and Mary Susan Hayward, of Newbury Park, CA; son Donald (Charlene) Hayward, of Neillsville; grandson, Jason (Marie) Hayward, of Neenah; grandson, Phil (Missy Jones) Hayward, of San Diego, CA; daughter, Nancy (Steven) VanBeusckom of Deming, NM; son, Alan Hayward, of Marshfield; son, James Hayward, of Green Bay; niece, Kathleen Cawley, of Libertyville, IL; grandniece, Jacqueline (Zo) Obradovic, of Chicago, IL; and grandnephew, Jay Cawley, of San Diego, CA.

Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; her parents, George A. and Anna Kennedy; brothers: John A. (Ali8ce) Kennedy, Earl V. (Madeline) Kennedy, Basil G. Kennedy; son-in-law, Edward E. Gandara; nephew-in-law, Sydney Cawley; nephew, John E. Kennedy; and an infant son.

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, August 15 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at Memorial Medical Center Health & Rehabilitation Center, 216 Sunset Place, Neillsville, WI.

A Memorial Burial Service will be held Saturday, September 30 at the family plot in the Mellen Union Cemetery.

Mellen was always home!
